Inkscape vs illustrator 201811/16/2023 ![]() ![]() For some rare corner cases, it even provides a built-in XML editor, allowing you to edit textually any detail of your creation, which can surprisingly be easier to understand by abstracting away the user interface in a readable format. Inkscape is a polished piece of software, working as expected on all major platforms (Windows, MacOS and Linux). I have encountered a few frustrations while using it, but my overall experience is definitely positive and I would recommend this software any day of the week to any person getting into vector graphics design. Its ability to open and modify PDF and AI (Adobe Illustrator) files is a real plus, as designers will often send their work in those formats. Overall: Because Inkscape is able to work with many different image formats, it has enabled me to convert raster images to vectors at work, making it possible to print high quality promotional material. You just have to know what it is that you're looking for, so find those community boards, they'll help you out. But I think everything that I've looked for, the program can do, which is a great asset. User interface is a little different than say like Adobe Illustrator is. They are not in the same places I am used to finding them. It can do a lot more than what I had originally anticipated. There are a lot of features that aren't readily apparent when you open the program. My advice for anybody who's looking to use Inkscape is to find the Inkscape community boards. ![]() We have been able to just double click the files that we needed to open, and it opens right into Inkscape, and then we can edit them directly from their user interface. It has a very similar interface to other editors that we have seen for any digital programs. We were able to get it up on everybody's computer that needed it. ![]() We chose Inkscape because we needed a program that could edit SVG files, AI files, and EPS files. And we were looking for a solution that didn't cost as much as Adobe products until we found Inkscape, which it does everything we needed to do, and it was obviously within budget. Sometimes it was crucial in order to have a vector editing software. Being that this is for business use, bringing in my personal computer all the time was difficult for me to remember in the mornings.
